Online Application Process Commences

If the parent or carer has an internet connection, a printer and an email account they are asked to complete an online application for their child to be considered for enrolment in a selective or agricultural high school in 2014. To do so go to: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement

Paper Application Process Commences.

If you do not complete your application form online you need to complete a paper application form. Paper application forms are available from your child’s government primary school, a selective high school or a  a School Education Group Office or the Selective High School and Opportunity Class Placement Unit at Bankstown. Some government primary schools may have spare copies if you care to check with them. If you phone the Selective Schools Unit on (02) 9707 6262 they may post you one.

Lodgement of Application Forms.

Applicants attending government schools:

  • Online application forms must be submitted 19 November 2012, Applicants will be  emailed:
    • your child's student number which you will need for any communication with the Unit
    • a copy of the application which you just lodged
    • an attachment cover sheet which you will need to attach to any documents you are required to attach to any documents you are required to submit. 
    • (if you are lodging a late application) you will also be emailed a page for the student's school principal to complete. 
  • Paper application forms must be returned it to the principal of your child’s primary school by 16 November 2012. You will need to attach photocopies of any documents you are required to submit. You will receive 

Applicants attending non-government schools:

  • If you completed a paper application form you must return it to the principal of your child’s primary school by 16 November 2012. The principal of the school should complete the school section of the form and forward it to the Unit. If the principal  of the non-government school:
    • is unwilling to provide school assessment scores you will need to complete the form entitled, ''you should 
  • If you completed an online application, you will be emailed need to print it out, staple it together and return it to the principal of your child’s primary school by this date.


February 2013

Confirmation of Receipt of Application Forms

You should receive a letter or email by this date to confirm that the Unit has received your application form. You should contact the Unit (02) 9707 6262 if you have not received this communication by the end of February.

Test Centre Advice

You should receive a letter or email by this date saying where your child is to take the test. If you have not received this communication by this date you should contact the Unit on (02) 9707 6262.

14 March 2013

Test Day

Test Day. Your child should arrive by 9.00 a.m. You or another responsible person should be ready to collect your child by 1:15p.m.

Lodgement of Illness Misadventure Claims

This is the closing date for the lodgement of Illness/Misadventure forms with the Selective Schools Unit. These forms are required only for students who missed the Selective Schools Test or could not do their best in the test because of some illness or misadventure.

April 2013

Check of Student Details.

You will get a letter or email by this date asking you to check whether the Unit has the correct details recorded on your child.


Early July 2013

Outcome of Application Advice

You will get a letter or email by this date to advise you of the outcome of your application. The communication will advise you whether your child was made an offer, placed on the reserve list or unsuccessful for any or all of the schools you applied for.

21 days from the date on the outcome advice letter.

Lodgement of Appeals

If you think there were factors which may have prevented the academic merit of your child from being properly assessed and you believe that the selection committee may either not have been aware of those factors or that those factors may have been  overlooked, you may appeal against the decision by this date. You may do so online at  www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement or phone the Selective Schools Unit on (02)97076262 for a paper appeals form.
